Accord Singing group

Accord is a singing group, formed in 1992, with a dozen of our church members. Mostly we sing in our traditional 9.30am services in the church, also for special services, and each Christmas we sing around the wards at the local hospital.

Our music is mostly by modern composers, but in a traditional form, and generally we sing in four-part harmony. We provide Introits to open worship, and Benedictions before people leave for home. In between we can sing anthems, music to help prayers and during Holy Communion, also to provide a lead when our congregation sing something new. At Christmas we sing new carols for our traditional carol service. We do try to choose songs that support the theme of the service.

We have a practice each Thursday at 7.30pm, at the church. And we have a summer party when we come together for fun. We’re a friendly group, with plenty of banter, but also sometimes our sessions slip into discussion about our faith. We believe our small ministry is of value to the folk who come to worship, but also to ourselves.

Accord welcomes new singers. If you haven’t tried harmony singing before, come and give it a try because it’s very pleasurable, and it’s not so hard as you might think! We thank God for his gift of music.
